When you get a chance, head over to the Recommended section to learn about one great book and a couple of good films.
A Nation of Sheep by Judge Andrew Napolitano will give you the intriguing, maddening and often frightening details of what happens when a government assumes too much control. This is the perfect book for people who have a tendency to label just about everything as a conspiracy theory or who take Fox News or CNN as gospel. Coming from a Fox News host and regular contributor, it packs an unexpected punch, from a guy who cannot be labeled a conspiracy nut. The book is entertaining, informative and a quick read.
Why We Fight and No End In Sight may prove a bit more controversial at first, but are important and necessary films and will help to give you “the other side of the story.” These can’t be written off as mere “Bush Hate” or Left Wing propaganda. These are stories from the soldiers, Iraqi people and high level US government personnel who dared to question the motives, plans and execution of the so-called “War on Terror.”
All of these will move you and get you thinking. Regardless of where you are in the discussion, these resources will prove invaluable.
Obviously, I have not had much opportunity to write lately. Honestly, I have no idea when I will get back into the swing of things. I do have a good reason though. In fact, I have a couple of good reasons.
Penny or PJ or Penny Jane or Penelope or Lorena (if you’re her Baba Strobel) or the tune to Penny Lane (if you’re her father) was born at 8:06 am, March 19, 2008. She clocked in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces and 21.5 inches long.
She is healthy and perfect, as is mom, and we couldn’t be happier (especially now that it is over — *smile*)
Here’s a few quicks pics for now I am sure we will be taking and posting many more in the days and weeks to come.
Alison and I want to thank everyone for their prayers and support. We both know that many of you were weary of a home birth, and not only did we understand, we appreciated your concern. Fortunately, everything went very well, if a little faster than we had anticipated. But I’ll let Alison tell you all about it. Head over to Go Baby Morrow to see what the mother has to say.
Judicial Watch, Inc., a conservative, non-partisan educational foundation, promotes transparency, accountability and integrity in government, politics and the law.
Through its educational endeavors, Judicial Watch advocates high standards of ethics and morality in our nation’s public life and seeks to ensure that political and judicial officials do not abuse the powers entrusted to them by the American people.
Judicial Watch fulfills its educational mission through litigation, investigations and public outreach.
This is an important organization with a tag line I can get behind, “Promoting Integrity, Transparency and Accountability in Government, Politics and the Law.”
It is too often forgotten that the government receives its power from the people. Unfortunately, the people act as if the government is the one in charge. We “hire” and pay people to govern us according to established rules and regulations. In a world where the people have, for all intents and purposes, abandoned their constitutional right and responsibility to oversee their government, it is a good thing that there are groups out there like Judicial Watch to help rein in an out of control government that has become accustomed to unaccountability.
Can you imagine a government characterized by integrity, transparency, and accountability? It’s not easy. Regardless, I am glad there are people out there who have not given up hope.
So Bernanke and the Fed are at it again. Acting more like socialists than capitalists, they continue to bail out the failing loan industry and others by creating money out of thin air, while ignorant Americans see a 400 point climb in the Dow Jones and start to cheer. Of course, 400 points today means virtually nothing compared to increasing inflation and the imminent collapse of the dollar, but people don’t seem to get that part.
Kinda reminds me of Bush’s economic stimulus plan to give people $600 bucks to spend at Wal-Mart or Joe’s Liquor: It will not actually help the economy at all, but people like getting “free” money. Most of us are familiar with the saying about “free lunches.”
Oh well, back to Bernanke and the Fed. Watch the video and listen carefully. While I am not sure Roger’s assessment of Bernanke’s motives is correct (he seems to think that Bernanke is simply an idiot and not merely conniving), I was happy to hear him tell it like it is and I was surprised someone did not jump on the kill switch sooner. Actually, it was a fairly reasonable and non-confrontational interview.
One of the best lines:
CNBC: “what would be the first two things you would do if you were in Mr. Bernanke’s seat tomorrow morning?
Rogers: “I would abolish the Federal Reserve and I would resign.”
Well said.
For an even more critical take on the Fed and Bernanke, as well as more thoughts on this interview, check out the InfoWars article.
This is a short video featuring moving and powerful speeches from three important Americans of the last half-century: JFK, MLK and Ron Paul. Close the door, turn down the lights, turn up the volume and perhaps grab a tissue.
That’s what happens when you listen to the news. No, I am not saying that Dr. Paul is going to come back and win the election. What I am saying is that over a month ago the major media was wrongly reporting that Congressman Paul had conceded and left the race. Surprise surprise.
I personally know of people who actually supported Paul but who assumed this was true, and went into “safe play - just defeat the democrats” voting mode. We will talk more about that “safe play” voting another time - is there a time when we should simply vote for the lesser of two evils? We’ll talk about that before November, probably a number of times.
For now, here is an article and video to keep you informed. Follow the links below.
I know many of you are following the situation in California regarding the legality of homeschooling and so this is likely not new to you, but I still wanted to post it.
Governor Schwarzenegger released the following press release on Friday, March 7. You can find the original press release at the Governor’s Web site.
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger today issued the following statement regarding the recent Second District Court of Appeals ruling on home schooling:”Every California child deserves a quality education and parents should have the right to decide what’s best for their children. Parents should not be penalized for acting in the best interests of their children’s education. This outrageous ruling must be overturned by the courts and if the courts don’t protect parents’ rights then, as elected officials, we will.”
We will have to wait and see what exactly that means, but it sounds like our Governor may actually be willing to stand up for liberty. Let’s hope (and pray).
While I have made such empty threats before, I feel I must do so again. Of course, I could very easily publish this post then find something I just have to write about. It would not surprise me.
Regardless, Ali is due in about a week and there is still stuff to do around here to make things just right. I am spending a lot of time reading and writing for school and pleasure and much of this will come to shape the future of BTFOG (which will no longer be called BTFOG, by the way). I will let you know more eventually. I am hoping to have some news in the next four years. Stay tuned. For now, forgive me if I do not write much (or even if I do)
“The argument that the two parties should represent opposed ideals and policies, one, perhaps, of the Right and the other of the Left, is a foolish idea acceptable only to the doctrinaire and academic thinkers.
"Instead, the two parties should be almost identical, so that the American people can 'throw the rascals out' at any election without leading to any profound or extreme shifts in policy”
